Brigham Young's desire for his children was that "they not only walk in the footsteps of their father, but take a course to enjoy life, health and vigor while they live, and the spirit of intelligence from God, that they may far outstrip their father long in life, and in the good they will perform in their day." And more specifically, "I wish my [children] to far exceed me in goodness and virtue."
